Stadium Bridge
The Stadium Bridge project is a central component of an expansive urban revitalization effort in northwest Calgary and aims to increase the connectivity between the North and South regions that are currently split by 16th Avenue. Currently, 16th Avenue acts as a significant barrier amid high-density population and employment zones. Surrounded by major developments on both sides, the project aims to seamlessly integrate a visually captivating and functionally effective pedestrian bridge, fostering a pedestrian-friendly environment with a strong emphasis on transit and active transportation. The goals and the key benefits for the bridge aim to increase connections to regional pathways, increase pedestrian and cycling movement, increase access to the north crosstown BRT and to facilitate access to both the Foothills Medical Centre and UXBorough (stadium) development. This innovative bridge design aligns seamlessly with its urban context while supporting pedestrian access, creating connections in the community. The use of box trusses, rounded columns, and chamfered ramp edges not only responds to the human scale but also contributes to a visually refined infrastructure. The project's commitment to legibility, vibrancy, and resilience further solidifies its role as a transformative element, enhancing connectivity, accessibility, and the overall urban experience in northwest Calgary.
